FLL 2017-2018

FLL WORLD FESTIVAL – DETROIT

The Brain Busters were proud to be representing Massachusetts in their first-ever trip to the World Festival. The international championship was held April 25, 2018, at the Cobo Center, in Detroit, Michigan. The team had a wonderful experience meeting like-minded students from all over the World.  The competition was fierce, but the Brain Busters proudly received the coveted Judges Award.

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

Returning to the State Championship for the fifth consecutive year, the Brain Busters came away with the coveted Champion’s Award, securing their spot in the World Championship to be held in Detroit, Michigan. The team also won a separate award for robot performance.

WORCESTER QUALIFIER

Returning for their fifth season in the FLL, the Brain Busters made another appearance at the Worcester Qualifier.  They received a programming award and their 4th Last Robot Standing award.

For this year’s Hydrodynamics project theme, the team developed what they call SPEW, for Solar Powered Emergency Water purification.  This low cost, portable system uses conventional filters and advanced reverse osmosis to make almost any water safe to drink. It operates on solar, battery, or plug-in power and each unit can produce enough drinking water for several families. The system’s portability and ease of use makes it perfect to have on hand for natural disasters or to treat contaminants in the water supply.
