FLL 2013-2014

December 14, 2013

The Worcester Qualifier was held at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI).  Our first year out, and we earned a Project Award and scored high enough to get a “Golden Ticket” to move on the the State Championship!  We setup our full-scale High Altitude Balloon Based Notification Sign and it stood tall, in snow and high winds.

We were so excited to participate in the Massachusetts State FLL Championship, back at WPI!    Our robot performed great and the judges seemed impressed.

We are pleased share that we have been chosen as a finalist for the 2014 Global Innovation Award.  It is a great honor to be recognized as one of the top 3 entries out of nearly 550 teams from all over the world.  Please see  http://fllinnovation.firstlegoleague.org/  this video for more information.  The

top winner will be announced at a special ceremony to be held at the United States Patent and Trademark Office in Alexandria, Virginia on June 3, 2014.

We won!    We are honored to be selected from so many great entries.  At a ceremony held at the United State Patent and Trademark Office USPTO in Arlington VA, it was announced that The Brain Busters team was selected as the winner out of 547 teams that submitted their ideas from 27 countries.  The team also served as Innovation Ambassadors at an event held at The US Department of State in Washington, DC on June 4, 2014.

The FLL Global Innovation Award is presented by XPRIZE, which uses multi-million dollar incentivized prize competitions to motivate and inspire the world’s most brilliant innovators.   Similarly, the Global Innovation Award inspires young inventors ages 9-16 to direct their minds to solving real world problems through innovative solutions.  This year’s competition was open to the quarter million students on over 25,000 FLL teams worldwide.  The winning Brain Busters team was selected by a panel of subject matter and intellectual property experts as well as and business and marketing professionals.
